Tummy Tuck without lipo?
I have been reading here for weeks and finally set my date so I decided to join. I will be getting a TT and breast Aug on Sep. 15th (next Wednesday). Now I am second guessing everything! My first concern is that the Doctor I chose is not going to do lipo wiht the TT . This concerns me because I am not in great shape and feel like my results will not be what I expect. Doc said that he would rather not bc is it not really needed and it will increase bruising and swelling. Does that sound right? Also there will no drain tube for my breast. Is that normal?
I may just be getting too nervous. I feel very comfortable with the doctor and his staff but I am freaking out a little.
Thanks in advance
I had lipo done with my TT because I had some fat in my upper belly as well as the lower excess skin that comes with have children, and I love the results. I also had lipo on the "love handle" area and to give me a nice hour glass shape. You may not need it, I totally did. Also, I did not have any drain tubes for my breasts, so I think that may be normal. Hope this helps. :)
Thanks that helps me feel better. I do have extra fat, as a matter of fact I almost feel like I should drop some belly fat to help the TT go as well as possible. I haev a week though so that will not happen. I do have extra skin and lots of stretch marks covering my belly. The doctor says most of them will be removed with the surgery.
Oh ya I had a ton of stretch marks on my lower belly, they are all gone now! :)
Wanted to add.. I am 5'8 160:(
Necessity for the drain varies from person to person.
With your stats, your BMI puts you bordering on being overweight. I wonder why the doc is not doing lipo in addition to the TT. Did he suggest you lose weight prior to surgery?
If you would like to PM me your surgeon, I can give you some info if I am familiar with the doc.
He did not suggest lipo or losing at all.
I am not a doctor but I have worked as a surgical assistant in plastics for over 5 years and in response to your questions:
Drains for a breast augmentation is very rare (I can say we never put them for a straight breast augmentation) unless the case requires them for some reason.
As far as lipo and a tummy tuck, you need to discuss your concerns with your physician and make sure that you are comfortable. What area were you discussing liposuction the abdomen or the flanks (the flanks are the love handles or muffin top located above the hips on the backside)? If you are discussing lipo on the abdomen or tummy area (without me seeing you and from my experience) you may not need it when the excess skin is removed and the underlying muscles are tightened you should have a nice flat stomach. Often times after pregnancy the belly will not only have excess skin but it will also protrude because of the underlying muscles being lax and when the muscles are tightened (which I would assume he is doing as part of the tummy tuck) it acts as an internal corset and cinches them so they lay flat.
I encourage you to revisit your questions and concerns with your physician, tell he/she exactly what you expect after surgery as far as results and then he/she should tell you what is reasonable to expect with your surgery.
This is your body and even though it is cosmetic surgery it is surgery and you need to go in with confidence and an absolute understanding of the expected outcome.
Hi Ladies! I had my surgery on Wed and I have been feeling pretty good. I am pleased already even though we decided no lipo and I am swollen. My breast are sore but no pain just a lot of discomfort. The tummy Tuck is the most painful but I have been taking 1 pain pill every 4-6 hours instead of two and managing well. I went in today and the doctor said everything looked well and the drain may come out early next week. I know everyone has different experiences and I just wanted to share mine. It is no cake walk my any means but I am able to walk, eat, and get up and down with mild pain. Thanks for your input!
Glad to hear all is well!
