Body Lift ?

Dont know if anyone can answer this but i'll give it a go.

I was 400 pounds and over the last two years through diet I have dropped to 280 pounds but have hit a brick wall for about 6mths. My weight seems stuck. I have been told by my MD that a bypass procedure would help in moving my weight loss forward as he has had success with a similiar case and i'm already taking steps towards that. What i'm curious about is once i've reached my goal weight how long do I have to wait to get lift procedures such as tummy tucks etc. I keep reading that they want you to have maintained a stable weight for a length of time. My issue is I've been steady with my weight loss and havent gained but I'm very saddened by the amount of loose skin I am developing. I hate to have to keep dragging it around once all my hard work has paid off.

So if anyone whos gone through as dramatic a weight loss as i have and am still, knows if this is inforced. Or if in a year or so after the bypass I can just walk into an office and say trim me up.

There's other questions that need to be answered first.

Do you qualify for bypass surgery based upon your BMI? Are you considered morbidly obese medically? Do you have other medical problems? Will your insurance company cover it, or will you have to put up a good fight (doctor's documentation, years of medical comorbidities due to excess weight, compromised medical history due to obesity, etc.)? What type of bypass are you looking into? Are you a high risk patient?

To qualify for a tummy tuck/lipo/full body lift post gastric bypass with a credible surgeon, you will have to maintain your IDEAL weight (which most patients NEVER reach, although many have a healthy BMI temporarily) for an extended period of time (varies from surgeon to surgeon). This will also probably not be covered by insurance. Pricey surgery (surgeries) so be prepared.

I understand your frustration with the excess skin. I have never had a tummy tuck, but one part of my profession is working with individuals attempting to qualify for gastric bypass as well as post op patients (medically as well as mentally).

I hope this post helps you and I look forward to your reply.
