Default Do silicone scar sheets work?

I have been told that silicone scar sheets are the best way to treat scars from surgery. I have also heard they are good for treating any type of raised scarring.

Does anyone here have any personal experience using these and can they give a thumbs up or a thumbs down?

I do not have scars myself that are that bad but I do have a brother that has some from a surgery he had.

I have been reading up on these since this morning and have read mixed reviews. They sound like they're helpful but they also are a pain in the butt because you need to wear them almost non stop for a long time.

Yes, as sajio stated the reviews are definitely mixed, leaning more toward the negative side of the spectrum. I would not use them.

They do help but you can't expect miracles.

You cannot expect ANY miracles from ANY surgery, including plastic surgery. Every individual case differs and every surgeon has his or her own special skill, although there are NO guarantees. That's why they make you sign the creative waivers, absolving surgeon liability, regardless of their responsibility. I do not wholeheartedly agree with the surgeon having the ability to "erase" all wrongdoing, even when it is his or her fault completely, however, expecting miracles is unreasonable. The first thing the patient can do to avoid complete and total dissatisfaction, is to have reasonable expectations, as I have posted in the past. If one perceives surgery as a "miracle", he or she will be very dissapointed and might start the cycle of returning for more (perhaps undeemed or unnecessary on a personal or professional basis) until your miracle "might" happen.

Speaking of unrealistic expectations, a lot of people seemed to be out of touch with what is and isn't possible. They go to their surgeon and say they want to look like Johnny Depp or Angelina Jolie but they don't realize they have a different bone structure.

I always recommend people try and find pics of celebs who are a better look version of themselves for advice. If different people have ever said you look exactly like so and so, then chances are you have a similar face to them. You will never look like them but looking at their pics and how they style their hair and things like that are helpful.

I like the idea of bringing a photo to the surgeon, but a photo of someone who you resemble in some way. That is traveling the road of realistic expectations. I have heard people bringing in photos for hair color or hair cuts, but usually (again) the results don't match the over the top expectations. Hair is important to a persons appearance (for women especially), but it's a bit different getting plastic surgery vs. getting your hair done. Hair grows back. Your nose can't.
