| C Section Scar Revision Last spring I was given a cesarean section when giving birth to my twin boys and would like to know if a C section scar revision will work for me. It is not the normal one but a vertical incision. I have 3 complaints about it
1. The scar is a little raised and bumpy.
2. It has some red discoloration on it that has faded but is still there, but darker.
3. Unless I wear a one piece bathing suit it can always be seen. If he would have done the regular C section this wouldn’t have happened but he insisted the vertical was needed for safety. I think he did it for fear of getting sued but that is neither here nor there.
I have not used any scar remover creams or tapes because he said it wouldn’t help. Is that true? If I can use a product and avoid more surgery that would be great! But if I do get C section scar revision would there be any way to do it so the scars will be hidden when I wear a two-piece? |

| First off, why did the doc insist on a vertical incision? Did the scar get infected? Did you treat the scar with anything post op?
There are products out there that will help a superficial scar fade somewhat, but yours is raised. You might need a revision.
Usually, when a vertical scar is revised, a scar will then be present around the navel. You would also be left with a significant horizontal scar (usually hip to hip). You might be able to wear a bikini, but there would be a scar around your belly button. The large horizontal scar would be conealed by your bathing suit, as if you originally had a traditional horizontal incision.
Are you satisfied with the results of the surgery? Is your stomach taut or is your fascia loose? I know several individuals who ended up getting another tummy tuck after vertical incision, as they had issues similar to yours. I am not saying this is the way to go in your situation, I am merely mentioning it to let you know you are not the only person who was dissatisfied with this particular surgical approach. I know someone who got scar revision and lipo post tummy tuck vertical incision, and she was satisfied. Definitely not perfect results, but everyone is different.

| Yes, as Robyne pointed out you will basically be trading one scar for another. The tummy tuck (if you have the excess skin to do it) in my opinion is a good alternative to a vertical C section scar revision. Of course a tummy tuck will still leave a scar, but if done right, at least it won't be seen when you wear a bikini
May I ask what ethnicity you are? Generally the darker your skin, the more unsuccessful scar revision is. Even those with olive skin are more prone to scarring. But there are some topical products that may help, but even those are not very effective for some. |

| Thank you everyone for the help! He said the vertical C section was necessary for the safety of my babies. I never questioned him but should have! I am leaning towards doing a tummy tuck now over the C section scar revision. After having twin boys in me for 9 months there is some extra skin down there for sure. I think the tummy tuck would kill two birds with one stone. Thank you and I will post updates once I'm further along! |

| Hey JuneBug (love your name)
I also have a vertical scar. Hate it ... wide, narrow, dips, ugly!! I haven't worn a 2 piece in 20 years!
Anyway, My SP told me my ugly scar would be one very fine line, I think he said he was using "glue"?? To swap out one ugly scar for one that can't be seen (unless your my husband, ha ha ha) will be the best thing that has happened to me in a very long time!
