Closed rhinoplasty is actually the more advanced form of rhino. When the students learn they first learn open rhinoplasty which is as you can guess much easier. Only after they have perfected that do they learn closed, sometimes they never learn it at all.
So at the end of the day you have many plastic surgeons who learn open rhinoplasty and continue only using that and therefore becoming sufficient in it. However only the most advanced surgeons have mastered closed. Don't get me wrong, there are open rhinoplasty surgeons who do a better job than closed rhinoplasty surgeons and vice-versa. It all depends on that talent of the surgeon. You can have good results with both methods, but also bad results with both.
I can tell you the recovery time and swelling is much shorter with closed. You are looking at only a fraction of the time you get with open. However open allegedly gives you more control over the tip. Closed is a quicker procedure than open. At the end of the day I think it all depends on the surgeons talent which is more important than the method. |
