Can nasal stitches used to narrow the tip of your nose break after surgery? Yes, that's right, when you get your nose tip made smaller, the surgeon will stitch together the two nasal domes (your left and ride sides of the nose) so they are more narrow.

My question though is what happens when something goes wrong with those stitches? They could break? They may wear through a part of the tissue and then fall apart? I really would like to know what happens and how often this occurs.

I don't see why this would not be a possibility. I think some of the collapsed alar valves which are common with rhinoplasty are caused by the stitches malfunctioning.

Yes they can and the result is not pretty.

Basically what happens is when the stitch comes apart the nasal domes will separate and widen and it does not look good. Of course than you need a revision which is not fun nor cheap. I don't know if anyone on this rhinoplasty forum has had this happen to them but it definitely does occur sometimes.
