I've been researching rhinoplasty and septoplasty to get a good understanding of what I should expect. I have a deviated septum, and I'm also interested in getting cosmetic fixes to my nose also, but the surgeon that I'm interested in getting the work done with, doesn't do digital imagery, meaning I won't see an idea of what my nose will look like. Is this common? Or is it more common for me to see a Photoshopped picture of my nose? I know the picture won't be my exact outcome but I think it will help. Anyway just wondering if it's normal for surgeons to not offer this for rhinoplasty?

Arizona Rhinoplasty

A shrewd observation to be sure. A lot of trust goes into the doctor/patient relationship -- you are putting so much in their hands when you agree to a rhinoplasty, or any procedure for that matter. I trust my surgeon and he has excellent credentials, but have thought of seeing a second doctor to only see what their digital imagery would reveal.

I went to Beverly Hills Physicians in Thousand Oaks, CA and they didnt use imagery. I trusted the staff and the surgeons credentials and loong history. Most importantly I felt he understood my needs

hi there. I've been seeing 4 doctors in London for my Rhino and only one of them uses images/photoshop - most doctors here say it's too far from reality and they don't want that patients have wrong expectations. The one with the images agreed to that and showed me differences of images vs reality after surgery - there's a big difference! But I agree, it's still nice to see how it could potentially look.
on the other hand: your nose is unique. photoshop doesn't consider that. it just narrows the bridge, removes a hump etc...but how the nose really actually looks after surgery can't be modelled.
so i wouldnt worry about a doc who doesn't do images. as long as he understands exactly what you want and what you are looking for.

I completely agree if we see it from the doctor's point of view, digital imagery does raise unrealistic expectations and patient would always end up being dissatisfied despite the fine job doctor may have done.

Its some times better to rely upon human skill and experience rather than technology.

I am a life caster near NYC.. recently I've been contacted by several plastic surgery patients (for rhinoplasty) in order to cast their faces for reference for the doctor they choose. This may be a great alternative to using something like Photoshop for you. How it's worked is: I take a mold of the person's face, then make 2 casts from it. One cast remains how they originally look before surgery (or if surgeries have already been done, then it serves as a new starting point), then the 2nd cast- I work with the person getting surgery to resculpt their nose/face. Then the person brings these casts to their doctor and the Dr. bases the surgery on the resculpt. People only ever see themselves in a mirror, never 3 dimensionally, so it enables a person to see exactly what they Really look like- even their pores, scars, wrinkles, etc...
