After 50 years of hating my nose, I'm finally looking into rhinoplasty. I live in Southern California and have been pretty diligent in taking notes on doctors (the comments here have been very helpful =), calling offices, setting consult appointments (only been to one so far--2 more next week), and had a couple of telephone consults. Having a real difficult time finding that doc who is board certified (facial ps), does a lot of noses, like the before and after, and is in my price range (Thinking I may have to go out of state to get a quality doc at $7,000 or under). There seems to be a positive buzz about Grigoryants and Rollin Daniel, but I cannot find either listed through the American Board of Facial Plastic Surgeons. I'm almost willing to compromise for someone who seems to "know noses", but a little voice inside is telling me that I'll have this nose for the next 50 years and not to compromise.

Anyone have any thoughts on docs who specialize in rhinoplasty, but are not board certified in Facial PS...only general PS?

I think it s better if you would find a doc registered with the American Board of PS rather than a Plastic surgeon not registered with the American board of PS.

You said that you are also willing to travel out of the states. Yes in certain countries out of the states are cheaper and you can find good plastic surgeons in Europe and other countries who are both regisitered with the American Board of PS and regisitered with the plastic surgery organisation of their country. However you ll also find crappy surgeons outside the states as well so you have to be a bit careful. In the states cosmetic surgery is expensive. The prob when travelling for surgery is that you do nt know what you ll find.

I travelled to the states for my surgery and ended up extremely unhappy and I ended up 'bankrupt', now looking for a revision rhino surgeon to help me out get out with what the states surgeon left me with-I did nt know what I was about to find with the surgeon in the stataes cause I relied on his adverts and promos of the surgeon.

Actually, I'm not comfortable going out of the States, rather just out of California to another state if there's a great rhinoplasty specialist in an area with a lower cost of living. Docs that I've liked here seem to have high overhead with a pricetag to match (and I have lots of AAdvantage miles burning a hole in my pocket

I think I agree with you....I think it's important that I find someone board certified in Facial. The more horror stories I hear and tales of revisions, the more certain I become.

Well, for example, Daniel has messed up some noses pretty badly (severely restracted alars, extreme V-deformities, such and such.) Greg though has a great track record, with only one patient so far who was unhappy with some noticeable (though not extreme) irregularities after her Greg surgery.

The thing to remember about the American Board Of Plastic Surgery is that other boards sometimes require the surgeon to have been qualifiied by the Board Of Plastic Surgery first, before moving onto a more specific boards (like the Board of Reconstructive And Facial Plastic Surgery, another trusted board because it requires the doctor to be qualified first by the ABPS first.). Though boards that are named something like The American Organization of Aesthetic Surgery are the ones that don't have any connection with the America Board Of Plastic Surgery, and are not the ones that should be trusted.

I have to say, the sales pitch I received from the woman who answered their (Daniels) phone already had me shy away. It was really over the top and uncomfortable, stating that if I didn't go to him it would be sub-par work because he is simply the best in the country, and if there's a board certification for his specialty to be had, then he has it--any and all. Not true, although you could tell that she really believed in everything she said, so it was kind of sweet.

Lisa- I personally would prefere the east coast rather than Ca, etc... Prices are less (although there is not a big diff) in the east plus I feel that they are more patient oriented. This is my opinion. Although I m sure that you ll find good surgeons in Ca too.

Agree! I think prices will naturally be higher in CA because of the location. The same would go for NYC. Have you checked ENTs? They are sometimes also plastic surgeons and are usually a little cheaper. I used an ENT and felt more comfortable with that since I knew they would care more about the functionality of the nose post-surgery (and I wanted to be sure my nose was functioning at 100%!!)

Did you have a consultaion with Dr. Grigoryants? My consultation is scheduled for late August. I'm starting to wonder if it's a marketing tool to say he doesn't have anything available until then. Anyway, I love his before/after pictures but there are so many glowing reviews about him online that are actually making me think they are fake advertisements. Did you move forward with the surgery? Who else have you seen? (I've been to Dr. Robert Kotler, Dr. Toby Mayer, and Drs. Solieman and Litner)
