Hello all. :-) I had a functional rhinoplasty/septoplasty/turbinectomy and tip graft done on April 14th. I had issues breathing, especially at night and during exercise...and HATED the bump on the bridge of my nose! I always felt my nose was too "manly". So after having my consulation for my jaw surgery (to correct an overbite) my surgeon was going to do my nose at the same time but then there was the intubaation issue. We decided to do 2 separate procedures about 6 months apart. Well...I got through them both! :-)

Anyway...to get to my first question: I noticed that looking up in my nose I can see the cartilage in my septum on both sides. Some cartilage was removed from in my nose and used as a graft to add support to my tip..it used to move when I smiled/talked. How long does it take for the skin to grow back over it?

Hey Rosetears that's a good question. I didn't know it was normal to see the cartilage after surgery but yeah you can definitely see it in those photos. I'm sure it was the same with mine I just didn't notice it. Anyway my guess would be a few weeks usually. Did you ask your doctor about it? I don't want to worry you or anything but I didn't know that happened but I'm sure that's just because I'm clueless about some things.

hey thank you for posting in here. After waiting for so long I gave up anyone would bother reading my post! :-P

I ended up going to see my Dr. on Wednesday because my paranoia was driving me nutty! Turns out it is just scar tissue (granular tissue) and in some people it turns white inside the nose. *sigh* I had myself all worked up over nothing!

Cool I'm glad it turned out okay. Yeah because I had never heard of the bone cartilage showing through but that wouldn't be surprising you know because skin would probably just grow over it.

How's the breathing going through the nose? Are you feeling less clogged up than a week ago?

It's good to hear your rhinoplasty was done separately from your other surgery since it is no easy procedure. I noticed on your blog that no one has noticed your nose is different. This is a good sign. Your nose will continue evolving over the next 12 to 24 months with 80 to 90% of the final result after 6 to 8 months. Often people complain about how long rhinoplasty recovery is but the beneficial part is the changes will be visible gradually which is a good thing if you want to be discreet about your operation. Looks great, especially being you just had the operation.

Your nose looks good I bet it will turn out nice. Very pretty even before too!

m3_luvr - yes I was WAY relieved too! haha I tend to let my imagination take hold and it causes unecessary worry and stress. :-P as for the congestion..yes it is MUCH better! I found a very useful irrigation technique so it helps. I'm still a bit stuffy because the internal stitches haven't completely dissovled so they are holding to all kinds of crusty stuff that I can't get off....and that blocks my airway a bit. Yuck!

versace - yes I was happy to do it separate too..although the waiting was driving me crazy! :-) I just wanted it all done. And now it is. I have also come across alot of people who think that they will see final results in a month post-op. I laugh but at the same time try to explain to them it's not the case. And I am glad that my results aren't like BAM...she had a nose-job! haha To me I see a big difference, so does my bf. But other people not so much. I am looking forward to comparing 1 week post-op pics to the 1 year! :-D

Hey I saw your site you're looking good for 2 weeks! Was this an open or closed rhinoplasty?

at home recipe for saline solution LOL and a squirter thing. Boil 4 c. of water for atleast 3 minutes...add 2 tsp of sea salt after removing from heat (no iodine!!) and 1/2 tsp baking soda. allow solution to cool to room temp. separate into a few containers for easy storage. Lean over the sink and squirt away! :-P then I use Q-tips and a flashlight so I can see where I'm stickin it, and get all the softened gunk out that is blocking my airways in my nose.

it was an open rhinoplasty because i needed a septoplasty and turbinectomy and tip graft all done as well. :-)

Well, I have been getting back into the swing of life as it was before surgery finally :-) Including my workout routines. It feels so great to be able to accomplish cardio and weight training with more effective breathing!

I've also started to massage the bridge of my nose as it isn't as sore to the touch to help with swelling and smoothing the tiny bumps i can feel through my skin from where the bump was shaved down. it's helping alot.
