Hi everyone,

I am a 27 year old female in Los Angeles, and am looking for the best surgeon to refine my nose. I am looking primarily to refine the tip, and also decrease the projection a bit. I understand that tip work is very challenging and this is my primary concern. I am terrified of looking "pinched" or "done", and want as natural of an outcome as possible. I'm simply seeking inprovement, not perfection, and do not even plan on telling anyone I had my nose touched (if I think I can get away with it). On a side note, I have been told twice that the skin on my nose is very thick, although I'm not sure how that affects an outcome.

I have had a couple consultations with Dr. Kanodia and Dr. Kotler, and am considering making one with Dr. Frankel as well before I decide. I would love to hear everybody's opinions on all of these surgeons, or anybody else amazing in the LA area.

Your opinions are very much appreciated! I have a short time window to make this decision and I am very nervous about it (the outcome, not the surgery).

I have met with Kotler twice actually. Once at the beginning of 2009 and a second time just a couple weeks ago. I was originally planning on moving forward with these procedures back then (not necessarily with him, just in general), then had a heart condition deteriorate and had surgery for it...so that set me back about a year and a half Everything is ok now though, and I'm back to the drawing board. Let me begin with saying that Kanodia was not the warmest guy, but I liked his work and philosophy that a nose should look like it's never been touched. Also, he is resistant to take my case for reasons several other surgeons have told me are invalid, and I suspect he's just nervous of the liability given my recent surgery and the fact that his OR is monitored by an anesthetist and not an MD.

Anway, back to Kotler. I really must say, nicest guy ever. He thoroughly answered all of my questions (and I had a lot!), his cosmetic critiques of my nose were right on, and spent a lot of time with me himself (at least an hour, maybe even hour and a half). His OR is staffed by an anesthesiologist MD and he requested more thorough pre-op testing than other doctors. I did not feel rushed at all and felt that I was in responsible hands with him. His office is the one who did all my imaging.

Here is where I get hesitant with him... First of all, I do not see ANY reviews of him -- good OR bad -- anywhere online. I'm not sure what that means, but considering he's been in practice for 35 years I would think you could find something. Also, his office albums mostly show b/a pictures that are quite old (you can tell by the hairstyles/makeup trends/etc). Finally, and most importantly, I believe that a surgeon is comprised of two elements--half skill, half artist. Of course he has the skill to perform rhinoplasty, but as an artist his style needs to fit your tastes as well. Based on his photos, I found his work to be hit or miss for me. Even though we verbally discussed how conservative I'd like to be and he agreed, his pictures still look "done" to me. So this is where I get stumped.

May I ask which doctors you have met with yourself & what gives you the impression that Kotler is the best? Also where have you heard good stuff about him -- do you know anyone personally who has had work done by him?

Hi, I know this is a late reply but can you update me on your situation? I had a consultation with Dr. Kotler late last year and I'm now seriously considering undergoing rhinoplasty with him. I've read many reviews on Kotler--mostly good. I've found a few "horror" stories almost on every reputable doctor but I'm hoping those are outliers. Thanks.
