After four nose surgeries and coping with failure
It started with a deviated septum when I was 16. I had a septoplasty. It didn't help my breathing, so I had a revision. This made things worse, so I went to another ENT a year or so later and had another surgery done. Again, this made things worse, so I was discouraged to have another surgery. Most of the cartilage from my septum was broken off from where it should be at this point, and my right nostril would collapse upon breathing. I finally got in to a plastic surgeon for a reconstructive rhinoplasty. I really thought that this guy could fix my nose...
It has been more than a year since the surgery, I am now 23 years old, and my nose (the tip especially) is as hard as a rock, This is no exaggeration. My nose is immobile, and still deviated to the right. I now have rib cartilage and bone in my nose. I hate the fact that my nose is immobile, and though the swelling has gone down a little in the past year or so, it is still hard, and will never be able to move, probably because of so much scar tissue and extra bone used to reconstruct what the other doctors messed up.
I am distraught, and I feel like there is no way for it to ever be right again. It feels so foreign, 50% numb, and if I ever get hit or have damage done to my nose it would break so easily. I have OCD, so this is occupying my mind all the time.
Has anyone else out there experienced this, with the never-ending stiffness and numbness? I realize that this was my fourth surgery, but it was NEVER for cosmetic reasons, it all started with breathing problems, which I still have.
Sorry for the rant guys, I am just looking for support, as I realize that a fifth surgery is basically out of the question, unless I have a complete nose translplant
I can post pictures if anyone is interested of before and after.
Thanks in advance.
sorry to hear about your situation. and yes, before and after photos are always helpful. Will help others decide whether or not they want to go through with the procedure. thanks for sharing your story, and I look forward to seeing the photos.
Posting photos will definitely help myself as well as other forum members assess your situation, as well as what needs to be revised.
All that information and no one even answered my questions, they just want pictures. I would like to know if anyone else is suffering the same way I am...I provided enough information that pictures are not needed, though I will post them for people's enjoyment I suppose.
Your retort seems very defensive and angry. I'm not clear as to why.
I requested pics for insight, as well as to assess your current situation. Not for entertainment. The old saying "A picture is worth 1,000 words" is quite accurate. One can only describe their dilemma so accurately through words. Photos would definitely be helpful.
By the way, your swelling can last more than 2 years post rhinoplasty.
Why did you have an additional revision, if it was not recommended?
Any surgeon info, to give forum members some insight into your situation?
How are you treating your OCD? This is a pertinent question, as I am a medical as well as a mental health professional.
