I recently had an open rhinoplasty to reduce the prominence of the bridge and make the nose shorter in general. It's only been 11 days since the surgery and I realize it takes time to fully heal, but I'm worried that the bridge still comes out a bit too far and the nose is still too long. My tip also doesn't seem as raised as he said it would be.

I know there's swelling but the scary thing is, my nose doesn't actually LOOK or FEEL that swollen. It actually looks pretty normal. When I touch it, it's not just fleshy skin -- instead I can feel the outline of the bone (even practically in the tip) and it doesn't feel like there's that much excess "cushion." Does this mean that my swelling won't go down much more and this is basically the way my nose is gonna look? Or does swelling actually make the bones appear to come out more as well? Any similar experiences?

A lot of people think swelling = cushion, soft, etc...

Swelling on the nose is actually quite hard. The hardness you feel at the tip is not bone, it's swelling.

When I went to my doc for my post op, he started pressing down at my tip, with quite some force and explained that it was all swelling. I looked in the mirror afterward and noticed that all that was in fact swelling. He had pushed it down a bit and softened it up by pressing on it, and the difference was clearly visible.

I'm would not suggest pressing down yourself. I'm just saying that the hardness is swelling and it will go down.

Very true.

Myself and most are often horrified during the first couple weeks that the nose looks too long. This is almost always due to the swelling.

Hi,
I just had rhinoplasty done a week ago. They removed my cast yesterday and my nose looks swallen and longer than it should be.
I was also worried as you were that he hadn't made the tip smaller or hadn't filed the bridge down.
But after reading more about peoples experiences, it seems it's all due to the swelling.
Seems like we have to be really patient and wait a few months to start seeing better looking noses.

By the way, I noticed you posted your question in August.
How has your nose changed since then?? Is your bridge looking smoother and straighter, and your nose shorter!? Thanks!
