Nose CT Scan Report
 

Hey Everybody,

I underwent rhinoplasty with Dr. Daniel back in 2004 and recently had a CT scan to examine the positioning of a chin implant. The CT scan also picked up some structural abnormalities in my nose. Can anybody explain what this means?

"Minimal right sphenoid disease. Deviated septum. Paradoxical curvature of the middle turbinates."

Anything to be concerned about? My breathing isn't perfect, but it's not terrible either. Is functional septoplasty a risky procedure?

Jon did someone affiliated with a plastic surgeon perform the CT scan? It may be the fear game to scare you into further operations as I would not consider this a very detailed report. It would have been helpful if the degree of deviation was described because almost everyone has a deviated septum to at least a mild degree- perfect symmetry for any body part a rarity. Sphenoid disease is a broad term that can refer to any number of things- infection, structural problems, polyps, and so forth. Paradoxical means it veers in the opposite direction.

Dr. Hilinski in San Diego ordered the report, but I don't believe that the radiologist is affiliated with his operation. He definitely did not push any type of surgery - didn't even mention rhinoplasty, actually - so I believe that the report is objective.

Here is some more detail regarding the deviated septum and sinuses:

"SINUSES: There is lateral pneumatization of the right sphenoid sinus into the body of the sphenoid. There is minimal mucoperiosteal thickening far right lateral in the sphenoid sinus. The right vidian canal project into the sinus. The sphenoethmoidal recesses and ostia are patent.

NASAL FOSSA: The nasal septum is deviated 5 mm to the left. There is paradoxical curvature of the middle turbinates bilaterally."

Anything I should consider correcting?
