Most of the time when you sign your pre-op paperwork, you are literally signing your rights away. It is unethical, but sometimes practical for the surgeon. Sometimes it is due to lack of expertise, so the surgeon will not be held liable, which is not right. On the other side of the coin there are patients with BDD, unreasonable expectations, and others that are just plain sue crazy.
