breathing problems after open rhino
my peeps -
I got open rhino 2 weeks ago. The surgeon reshaped my nostrils and rasped my hump.
I am very happy with the cosmetic results.

But, I am terrified as I am having difficulty breathing through my nose. My symptoms: sinus pressure, difficulty breathing especcially at night, especcially through my right nostril, have me thinking he blocked an airway passage.

My question is: Is two weeks to short of a time to draw this conclusion? How much longer should I wait? If I do have blocked airways, should I get a revision surgery? How long should I wait to get the revision?

p.s. I havent told my doc yet. I am waying my decisions on what to do.

Welcome to the forum!!! On a personal note, I like your name, as I collect Kokopelli statues and trinkets. ;)

First off, contact your surgeon immediately!!! I understand you want to get some opinions from the forum, but you need to speak with him or her and have an appointment as soon as possible!!!

Some individuals do have trouble breathing post rhinoplasty due to post surgical swelling, blood buildup, mucous buildup, and/or trauma to the area. After a few weeks normal breathing should be restored, despite swelling.

I am glad you are happy with your cosmetic results, but breathing difficulties post rhinoplasty must be addressed and taken very seriously.

Keep us posted and good luck!!!

At two weeks post-op these are likely normal side effects depending on how extensive the surgery was. Was there turbinate reduction?

Only a doctor will be able to diagnosis this. They will be able to peer inside and tell if there is a blockage.

thanks, kokopelli rocks!
Yeah, i am going to my doctor on Monday. one thing that may matter, may have excerbated my situation, I had to move some heavy bags about a week and a half after surgery. After I had some serious sinus pain. Do you think I messed up big time?

Move some heavy bags? Could you be more specific as to how this could have affected you post rhinoplasty?

Any type of strenuous activity that shortly after rhinoplasty will worsen swelling. Do I think it did any permanent damage? Probably not, but I do think the extra swelling from it could have made your sinus symptoms worse.

I am aware that strenuous activity post-op can increase swelling. Don't laugh but when "heavy bags" were mentioned I thought about under the eyes.

I said don't laugh!!! :) :p
