Hi everyone,
I'm new to the board so not sure if something else has been posted on this situation.

1. It will be 4 months on the 23rd of this month since my surgery and my nose has been oily the entire way. I don't just mean a little bit of shine, I mean when I touch it my finger is glistening with oil, then other times it's dry and peeling.

Does anyone else have this problem? I was not warned it might happen and I hope to god I don't need some sort of laser surgery to shrink the oil glands or whatnot

2. I know others reported about a hard tip and it being bulbous. Seriously though, this will even out right? I had open/septorhinoplasty and I know it's only been four months but, I had a bump on the bridge before. Now I have an elevated bump on the tip so it's like it's been reversed! When I touch it I can actually feel how the cartilage goes up and outwards just on my tip.

Oily skin post rhinoplasty is common. This usually subsides after 4-6 months, but some people suffer with this issue up to one year post-op. Changes in the texture of your skin are normal. Secretions can occur after rhinoplasty because your blood circulation has been modified since the procedure. You might also experience an excess of oil on the nose as the sebaceous glands have been repositioned and disturbed due to the rhinoplasty.

You can use astringents and face wash for oily skin to minimize the issue. You might also want to see a dermatologist. That is what I would do.

Your nose is still swollen. You will have to wait quite some time for the swelling to go down. Have you discussed the bump on the tip of your nose with your surgeon? Also, unless you have been professionally advised to do so, try not to touch your nose too much. Every case is different, so even as a medical professional, I cannot guarantee that things will "even out". If I were you I would discuss this issue with my surgeon asap. Also, find out what recourse there will be if things do not turn out as you expected.

I really hope it goes away soon. I think I may see a dermatologist this summer because it is noticeably an excess of oil and it's very unattractive.

I would like to go see my surgeon, but I'm a little afraid to, to be honest. I'm scared of what he will tell me and that I'll need revision...the hump on my tip is not as large as some pictures I saw posted a few pages back, but it's still getting me more and more depressed. Either way I guess it's still better than it used to be. Too big for my small face though.

A part of me wonders if I'll just never be happy with myself, as I suspect a lot of people do go through with with plastic surgery suffer the same low self esteem

I know my face looks overall shiny in the second one as I was at a club and dancing, but the shine on my nose is actually how it looks on an average day.

You MUST speak to your surgeon about this, and anything else that you may perceive as wrong, abnormal, or not as you expected. If there was a problem (or perceived problem) with your payment, you know the surgeon would be contacting you. Now, there is an issue, and although it is common post-op, it is important that you make your doc aware of what is going on.

Your last statement concerns me. This is why I believe all potential PS candidates should have a thorough mental health evaluation prior to any procedure. Sometimes PS patients have very unreasonable physical as well as mental expectations as to how things will turn out post-op. Did you think a rhinoplasty was going to resolve your self esteem issues? As you are contending with complications, do you think it the excessive oil and elevated bump on the tip are making you feel worse about yourself?

From the pics you provided the swelling is evident. Maybe if you posted a pre-op photo and a current photo (swelling should have improved by now vs. the pics you posted above), a more concrete comparison could be made. Due to the fact that myself and the other forum members do not know how you looked prior to surgery, there is no common frame of reference, and a true post-op evaluation cannot be arrived upon.

I always despised my nose, but I am feeling still bad about myself after the surgery because of the oil and bulbous tip.
I spent a little bit in the sun the other day and because of the oil, it burned soo badly-now I'll have to be sure to always wear sunscreen when I didn't have to before. Another reason to feel self conscious right?

May be a while, as my surgeon is the city where I go to school and I'm moving 6 hours away this week

Can you see the surgeon prior to leaving? If not, why not call him or her? You really need to make the surgeon aware of your current situation.

Unfortunately when I called, they said he was out of the country for the month I think he does work in the States so that really sucks for me because I'm leaving.

Well I have a good pic of how it looks right now, this was the first day I had all the bandages off and it still looks the same. Look like it's healing normally? Opinions??
