When rhinoplasty nasal packing is removed too soon What happens when rhinoplasty nasal packing is removed too early? Is your nose at risk of collapsing or falling apart if this happens? |
Yes, there is a definite risk. Why do you ask? |
Packing in rhinoplasty is an old technique. Now days is almost discontinued, it has been replaced by sutures placed through the nasal septum, to keep in place the mobilized nasal septum structures. The advantage is less swelling, patient can breathe by the nose in de immediate postoperative course. Resting nasal reconstruction in nasal packing is no longer accepted. |

I had packing with my rhinoplasty, but only for 24 hours. I think a lot of surgeons still do that, but I don't think for any longer than that. |
