Is this procedure for real? I'm sure it's safe to say we've all heard of it but is this a real procedure that people actually get commonly? Isn't it just taking tiny liposuction tubes and removing fat around the abs to enhance them? What if you're super skinny how will this work if there's no fat to suck out?

This is one of those old wives tales that everyone hears about but no one knows anything really about.

Yes this is a real procedure. Abdominal etching, which also goes by several others names such as ab sculpting and lipo sculpting, is a procedure a plastic surgeon by the name of Dr. Henry Mentz wsa the credited as pioneering in the early 90's. It involves using a special canula which is designed to shape and contour the fat above and around the abs. Tiny amounts of fat are removed around the patient's natural muscle contours. Depending on the body type the end result with either be a flat stomach or "six pack" abs. I believe other doctors besides Dr. Mentz do this now but I personally do not know of any.

where do they insert the lipo tube for abdominal etching anyway? i mean i would think having scars from a tube would kind of contradict the purpose of getting 'natural' abs in the first place lol
