I had Restylane twice. My surgeon has wonderful technique, and it still hurts!!! Yes, there is the bruising (my lips looked bluish purple even with lipstick on) and swelling (I went out shopping a few hours later lol), but nothing awful. You want might someone to drive you home from the procedure, because I had quite a long ride and it definitely was a challenge. Pain meds definitely help speed up the process, as well as ice.

I haven't had Restylane but I have had Juvederm (same active ingredient) and didn't have any side effects. I had a little put in the lips and I don't think it hurt at all afterwards, but while he was injecting it hurt like heck!

Restylane does not last very long. Juvederm and Juvederm Plus are the way to go.

I wanted to get Restylane in my lips but wanted to do some research about its side effects and complications before I went in to see my dermatologist. During my research I found this awesome site called SkinTour.com and the blogger is a board-certified dermatologist. Her articles about Restylane and common filler mistakes. Reading her articles made me feel much better about my choice to get lip injections because at the end of the day the complications aren't too bad and you can always have hyluronadase injected to reverse the effects. I got my lips done a couple of months ago, and I will be getting them done again and again after it wears off.
