say NO to taxing plastic surgery 11-20-2009 06:56 PM

The New Tax On Plastic Surgery

Tax on plastic surgery: How do you feel about having your Botox, rhinoplasty, and other self improvements being taxed? If the Congress and Senate get there way that is exactly what will happen to you!

The current healthcare reform bill imposes an unfair 5% plastic surgery tax. In order to get any type of cosmetic surgery or procedure you will have to pay the government!

What Uncle Sam doesn't realize is that vanity is not the reason most people undergo plastic surgery. Self esteem issues, taunting in school and career pressures are the common reasons why we get these things done. In Spain the government pays for rhinoplasty if it makes the patient feel better about themselves. Our government wants to TAX you for feeling better about yourself!

Please write both your congressman and senator and express that you want NO new taxes on plastic surgery!

Write Your Senator

Write Your Congressman

If this is legitimate, this is ridiculous!

I saw this on TV and THIS IS SO WRONG! I am fed up with taxing on everything and plastic surgery is already expensive enough as it is! They say it will bring in $50 billion a year and that is NOT ENOUGH TO PAY FOR REFORM! How about they tax the health insurance providers instead who operate as NON PROFITS!

Welcome to the Obama administration. They promised change. The only change we're going to wind up with, is what's in our piggy banks.

I think it excludes reconstructive surgery. I can't say I feel bad for Botox and that kind of stuff getting. After all if you go to the store and buy wrinkle cream you will be tax so why shouldn't it be the same with treatments done at a doctor's office?

robyne00 11-23-2009 09:30 AM

It does not exclude most reconstructive surgeries.

I saw something briefly about this but don't know the details at all.

I just tried looking this up and here is an ABC news article about it and yes it does sound like it's very vague:

Link:Cosmetic Tax in Reid Health Bill Has Some Doctors Worried and Confused - ABC News

The article quotes an official saying that it means anything "not not necessary to ameliorate a deformity..." Well what's their definition of a deformity? It sounds like we are going to be taxed on a lot of thing which truly are reconstructive

Is there any chance this will be taken out of the current bill? I am strongly opposed to this and above all else it's not going to bring in much money any way so this new tax is not the solution. We could bail out one less bank and bring in the same amount!

robyne00 11-23-2009 06:53 PM

I was looking into this myself, and I was very upset with what I was reading.

If a person "looks" normal (what is normal?) and cannot breathe through their nose, they would have to get three evaluations deeming them eligible to "repair their deformity". Utterly ridiculous.

la_angel, I wholeheartedly agree with you about the bank comment!

Mr. Z 11-24-2009 08:28 PM

If it truly doesn't exclude reconstructive surgery (like my problems) then I would have to agree with you guys. If someone is getting something for cosmetic reasons only it's not unthinkable for that to be taxed.

robyne00 11-25-2009 04:34 PM

They are trying to tax everything now. It's disgusting.
