Recommendations For Asian Double Eyelid Surgery Has anyone here had the double eyelid surgery? The point of the surgery is to make an upper eyelid with a crease (double eyelid) from an eyelid that has no crease. I don't get how this can be done because there's only so much skin they can work with? What are the complications with this surgery or in other words what does a "bad" double eyelid surgery come out to be like? Being that it's my eyes I really want it done right! |
I haven't had the surgery as I'm not even Asian but I can tell you a little bit of what it consists of if that's any help. The double eyelid surgery involves surgical creation o a crease in the eyelid which believe it or not is a rather simple procedure that involves either suturing the eyelids (least invasive) or using a small incision along the natural crease to remove soft tissue underneath (fat and muscle) which in return creates the double eyelid since the skin is able to sink back in without any excess soft tissue "puffing" it out. The preferred approach is the full skin incision. A significant anatomical difference with Asian eyelids is that the orbital septum, or in simple terms the layer that holds back the fat, extends further out, closer to the eyelid edge. When that is taken away the orbital fat is able to sink further, hence giving the desired crease. |
Double eyelid surgery is a technique to create a crease in the eyelid which is present in about 50% of people of Asian origin. For a younger person, it is not about removing excess skin but about precisely creating a connection between the skin and the underlying muscle responsible for lifting the eyelid called the “levator” muscle. “Bad” double eyelid surgery often occurs when excess fat is removed, excess skin is removed, the incision is misplaced on the eyelid, or the crease is not well defined. It’s important to see a surgeon with extensive experience with eyelids, particularly Asian eyelid |
