Have i left it too late? Hey, i am interested in getting the lower lids done, but i am heading overseas in late May. Wanted to get it done to get a bit of confidence in being able to socialize a bit better without always being self conscious about the bags under my eyes. It's something i've always wanted done, but i haven't strongly considered it until recently when i decided to travel overseas. So i'm leaving late May and i've rang 2 or 3 centres that i've considered to have good surgeons, but i can't be booked in until early-mid April for a consultation and then it may be not until early May or so until i can get booked in to have the procedure done. Which would leave me around 2 weeks recovery time. Is it too late to consider getting it done? Thanks for any help. |
It usually takes one week for the major healing to occur following blepharoplasty. It will take 7 to 10 days from your surgery date for bruising and swelling to heal. |
Well even if you could find a surgeon with availability, I wouldn't let time decide who does the surgery. I just don't know if it's worth racing the clock to get this done beforehand under these circumstances. |
I have noticed many people try to squeeze their surgeries in when it's convenient for surgeons, when they have an inadequate amount of vacation time, and/or when they are in a particular location. Like la_angel said, making geographic or time constraints how you choose your surgery date and/or your surgeon is not a good idea. Rushing into any type of surgery can lead to absolutely dismal results. |
Well, the advice has been noted. I've pushed back my trip overseas for a while. Have booked in with 3 surgeons who all have decent qualifications. Just one question though, (this might only be Australia related i think) 2 of them aren't members of FRACS (Royal Australasian College of Surgeons | Home), which is highly regarded here. How ok would it be to still select a surgeon that isn't a member of this society? All of them are members of ASPS (Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons : Home), which is highly regarded also judging by the website. Do you have any other essential information that would be helpful? Have got a good handful of questions to ask the surgeons, but anything else will help. EDIT: I suppose i should also mention, that i'm no rich sugar daddy. So i guess at the end of the day sadly i'm not going to be able to afford one that is one of the best in his field in the country. But would be happy to settle on one who is great at his work and holds memberships to reputable societies. :) |
Booked meaning consults or surgery dates? Hoping the former lol. FRACS credential is not crucial in Australia, but ASPS is. Unfortunately, the surgeons need less education, experience, and credentials vs. other docs in the US or various parts of Europe. I copied this and edited from one of my previous posts: Ask how many procedures of your choosing the doc does every year. Ask if you can speak with former patients. Is he or she board certified? Just board certified or certified with the facial plastic surgon board as well? Ask what percentage of the practice is dedicated to eye lifts. Definitely check out some before and afters and be critical. Try to see before and afters of people with similar issues as yours. Ask what recourse you will have if a revision is necessary. Good luck!!! :) |
Most definitely consultations. I know judging by my opening post it may seem i'm desperate to get it done ASAP, but i do realise it;s not a decision to take lightly. :D Unfortunate to hear that Australian surgeons dont have quite as much education, experience and/or credentials as other parts of the world. I guess it means the research is all the more critical. :p Thanks again for the advice, :) |
No problem, stormy. Keep us posted! |
