Default Best Otoplasty Surgeon?

Who is the best otoplasty surgeon in the country? I was always teased growing up about my big ears and now that I am an adult and can do something about it I want to get ear pinning. But after looking at many of the before and after pictures on this plastic surgery message board I get kind of scared because they are pinned to close to their ears and look like aliens.

Can anyone recommend any of the best plastic surgeons for otoplasty?

You're absolutely right in that most surgeons do a horrible job with this operation.

The ironic part is I visit the websites of most doctors who claim to be experts at it and the patients look like aliens with their ears so far back.

The "less is more" approach works best here. You want to find a surgeon who does an excellent job and barely does much. You see because your ears stick out further than the base of the ear, logically when you think about it a small change at the base makes a big impact at the end of the ear, so only a small of cartilage needs to be cut out for the ears to site in a desirable position.

I am looking for the same thing. I have looked at the otoplasty before and after pictures on some of these doctors sites and they frighten me. To think those are the best they've got it concerns me what their worst will look like!

Out of all of the otoplastys I have seen to date, I saw ONE that was done properly and looked realistic (in other words, no alien like appearance). Unfortunately, that surgeon is retired. Otherwise, I would have recommended him. This is a tricky surgery. The younger you are when it is performed, the better your results will be, so you can "grow" into your ears, instead of your ears just appearing to protrude even worse. Even when I have seen it done on many children, it has an artificial, alien like appearance, as la_angel stated. And yes, many proclaimed (self-proclaimed?) experts have subpar results as well. I would do a great deal of research and surgeon comparison before getting something like this, for anyone interested in this particular surgery. Unfortunately, that isn't a guarantee either ...

Unless you have a horrible set of ears (and I suppose most of us judge our own ears to be the worst even though they're not) I would probably advise against otoplasty for all the reasons we've stated above. My plastic surgeon measured mine and they stick out more than average but I would not get surgery because the odds of the outcome being desirable seems to be impossible. I always recommend people do tricks with their hair to disguise their ears instead.

I am thinking about otoplasty and will see Dr Buckingham in Texas next month. This girl doesn't look bad at all

I also saw Dr Apostolakis in Texas, and some his work seems decent too

Like I told you in PM, in my opinion Buckingham does average otoplasty. He has a cookie cutter approach to rhinoplasty as well. Too many surgeries offered as well. No one can be an expert at everything.

I also told you in PM , Apostolakis does too many surgeries. Major red flag. Not enough before and afters either. If he is only showing a few pics, what is he not showing you?

The pics you have chosen above definitely show improvement, although, I prefer the results of the latter. They both look way too flat to the head. Artificial.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my posts. It's helped me tons. I agree about the fact that some of the otoplasty patients end up with ears that are too close to thr head. If I decide to go ahead and perform this, I will stress I want a very small change. I don't wanna end up looking like an alien.
I noticed you keep mentioning these doctors perform too many surgeries. How many is too many?
As I mentioned earlier, I am narrowing down my search to surgeons who specialize on the face only.
Thanks

Perhaps if you specify that you want a subtle otoplasty that might help, however, many times docs are too aggressive in their approach with this particular surgery.

When I say docs perform too many surgeries I do not mean a surgeon who does 200 rhinoplasties every six months. I mean a surgeon that claims to be a specialist in everything under the sun, like a doc that claims he or she can fix every issue from head to toe.

It's good that you are only using facial specialists, but it is definitely in your best interest to visit multiple surgeons. As you learn more, ask more questions, and visit more surgeons you will be a well informed plastic surgery candidate who can make intelligent and well researched decisions. Remember you need to be in control ... not the surgeon.
