Are there any ear pinning alternatives? I have always been self conscious of my ears because they stick out so far and are larger than normal. I wanted ear pinning ever since middle school but grew up in the Midwest, where no one got anything cosmetic done.

Now that I am older and can do this on my own, I don't know if it will be a smart idea. From what I have read on this otoplasty forum there are a lot of screw-up with this surgery, no? Will there be any chance my ears can turn out good afterwards? Are there alternatives to ear pinning if I don't get it?

Any and all help will be useful for me because I am at a crossroads now and either need to get it done or find an alternative.

A tricky surgery overall, especially due to the fact that you are not a child. I do not know of any longterm and/or reasonable alternatives. Why not post pics? I know someone who got around this by changing his hairstyle, and he actually looked better.

Yes, you are right. It's a type of plastic surgery that has a bad outcome, more often than a good one IMO. If you've dug around this forum (and it sounds like you have) then you will see some of our other conversations about this. For some reason doctors just can't seem to get this right, and that's surprisingly because it's not rocket science. They just remove a section of the cartilage and stitch it back together so the ears sit closer to the head.

As far as ear pinning alternatives, as Robyne mentioned the hair trick can work wonders for some people - both men and women. It's harder for men though since they will need to have at least mid-length hair to pull it off, a buzz cut just won't work How long is it right now?

There are no alternatives to otoplasty, trust me, I've researched this. I went so far as to try this little plastic clip that pins your ears back for a few hours each day, with no results. turns out it only works on children as their cartiledge is still forming, whereas adult cartiledge is already formed, and not malleable,

Sooo I had otoplasty. Exactly a week ago. Best decision i ever made. And i live in the midwest as well, Chicago, to be exact, found the best surgeon who specialiazed in otoplasty. I have never been happier. So go for it, you're clearly aware there are no other alternatives as you have researched it, so your best bet is to grab life by the .... and go for it !

The answer could be no. There aren't any alternatives for ear pinning. Just go for the ear surgery. It may be affordable.

It has been more than a year since your otoplasty and i just want to know if you're still satisfied with your results, i'm thinking about doing otoplasty (ear pinning) myself but i'm so afraid of the long term results. I mean:
1- Have your ears relaped?
2- Are they symmetrical after surgery? And do they remain symmetrical?
3- Are the scars Noticeable?
3- would you recommed your Surgeon? (Plz send me his contacts)
