Hello All I'm usually on the rhinoplasty board, under special guest Johanna but I had to make an appearance here because while I got my nose done, I also had a chin implant. ( You can see just before picture now, I will be putting in after ones also). Now, my surgeon kept saying how he uses human tissue, and it will just become part of me in about 6 months. Stupid me here, not even thinking in terms of cadaver, nodding her head. I had my surgery done January 8th of this year though, put in vertically on the inside of my lower lip, looks so wonderful already I'm almost glad I didn't ask anymore questions because I might have been weirded out!. He said that this way the bone doesn't get worn away by artificial implants. So that's my experience so far - my chin looks absolutely perfect, with no numbness. My nose on the other hand.... much bigger of a healing process. Okay, hope I gave some needed info!

holy cow how does that work? i have NEVER heard of THAT for an implant before. Do they just use part of a dead person's chin? Take bone grafts from a dead person? Yeah that's crrrraaaazzy is this a new technique? is it bone or cartilage?

Had no idea this was even an option for chin augmentation! My guess is it's either sheets of donor bone or ground up bone they just shape around the existing chin? That is really amazing they should use that more for for trauma victims and recontruction. What medical center was this whole hooplah done at?

The surgery took place at New Island Hospital, a part of Northshore in Long Island, NY. I just know I am ecstatic with the results!

What an equally impressive job on the chin as well. Johanna I would be fascinated to read the operating report on your chin augmentation using donor material. Would you be interested in posting this as you will be for your rhinoplasty? Of course black out any and all personal information on the report first.

They only do these using donor tissue once in a blue moon and I had thought they stopped doing these when I retired from my practice. They were most often only for severe trauma victims.

Thanks so much for the complements everyone - I love the results too! As soon as I get this operation report, I will be able to provide so many more details. All I know is that human tissue was used, inserted through a vertical incision made in the inside of my lower lip. It healed beautifully within two week, and I have no pain. Even the tightness is practically gone, and it feels very close to normal. I would absolutely recommend my surgeon, Dr. Gerald Acker of Elmont Long Island, if you are in the area and are looking to get chin augmentation. Stay posted for that operation report. I constantly take a double take when leaving the bathroom and catching my reflection. I used to hate my profile so much... now I love it!

DaMN!!!!! your chin looks great!!! i had never heard of that method before!! you definitely look more balanced and feminine with your new chin. you were pretty before but this is more distinguished looking and just plain pretty.

ps- yeah, i would be weirded out too by the process but oh well.

Interesting! I am over 50 now and my doctor said I should get a chin implant in combination with a face lift to help contour and restore my jaw line without as much pulling. Is this common? If so, I am interested in this human tissue implant thing. I have never heard of it so I want to research it more. Joanna, did your doctor say if this method hurts more or less? Is the final result feel softer or the same as a traditional chin implant? I like how they went in through your mouth though so u didn't have to have a chin scar; although I think I will have to have one from my necklift regardless. Your chin looks much improved and your profile is now really beautiful.
