I was initially considering a rhinoplasty and in my research, I discovered that a weak chin can make a nose appear much larger than it really is. I think that may be the case with me, as my nose itself really isn't that big. I'm just not really happy with with my profile... any suggestions

I wouldn't recommend asking a plastic surgeon that question - that would be like asking a carpenter if anything could use an extra nail in it

To be quite honest, a chin implant may be a bad idea for you. Your chin is actually not that weak. In you case I believe an implant would make the end project out more and leave an indentation under your bottom lip... which wouldn't be desirable IMO.

I agree with la_angel. Professionally speaking, I think you could benefit from rhinoplasty. What or who made you think a chin implant would be beneficial?

Through the research I have done, I have heard that chin implants are often done in conjunction with rhinoplasty. From my understanding, the size a nose appears to be in profile is greatly dependant upon the chin; a weak chin making a nose appear larger and a very strong chin making a nose seem too small. I also researched the average size of a males nose and found it is 5.8 cm or 2.3 inches long and sticks out 2.6 cm or slightly over an 1 inch from this face. My nose is 2.25 inches long and is sligtly over an inch from the face.

From this, I concluded that maybe the issue isnt with my nose, as it seems to be within normal size range, but the chin or some other facial feature that doesnt support it. I realize that I shouldnt necessarily go by averages as everyones situation is unique.

I like your last statement about everyone's situation being unique. If you got a rhinoplasty and a chin implant, your profile would be very disproportionate. Maybe you can post a photo looking straight at the camera as well. Your profile pics make it appear that a rhinoplasty would improve your overall appearance.

Well the size of a nose is a personal preference, so whether or not rhinoplasty is something you want is totally up to you. Going back to the chin implant though, I can assure you that it probably not be a good idea for your face (due to the reasons I talked about). Everything you said make sense, but the truth is your chin is not what I would consider weak. So I don't think a chin implant will improve your face.

And yes, some additional pics could help. Try and take them so they're not aimed upward or downward.

Thanks again angel and robyne.. you both have been very helpful so far. I took a bunch of other pictures with the camera held straight at my profile and the front, instead of the others that were taken with the camera from below. These profile shots dont bother me nearly as much as the last picture of the ones I submitted above. Perhaps it was a bad or unnatural angle? I also submitted a shot of my nostrils from below and think I see some type of deviation between them. I'm wondering if this is why my right and left profile arent exactly the same. I've come to accept my nose a little more, but am still interested in the possibility of making subtle changes to it some day.

Your nose is obviously uneven, but is not horrible by any means. Your profile does look better in this set of pics. You might want to grow your hair a bit. I know many people that had variant facial issues and growing their hair helped to conceal facial flaws.

yes, I did post in the past. By uneven, are you talking about the deviation I noticed in my nostrils and difference in profiles? For curiousity sake, what exactly would need to be done to make it completely even or does a plastic surgeon need to assess that in person?

I probably should have mentioned that I underwent a septoplasty for a deviated septum. This was performed by an ear throat and nose doctor. I dont know if this is relevant to any of the discussion. I heard from another blog from someone who underwent a septoplasty and claimed to lose tip support.

Yes, I was referring to the deviation. A revisionist would be best to speak to about exact procedural work. The tip needs to be made smaller and the projection seems excessive (that is why there is an excess of protrusion).

Septoplasty can cause you to lose tip support and/or caving in of the nasal cavity (or cavities) causing deformities and/or unevenness. You definitely should have informed the forum members you had the septoplasty!!!
