how long do cheek implants last? help i have surgery next monday and now i'm scared after reading breast implants only last 10 years! i don't want to have to get surgery every 10 years i'm only 22 years old! are cheek implants the same where they have to keep getting replaced all the time? since they're made out of silicone is there any danger in them leaking? thank you |
:haha: sorry I can't help laughing but cheek implants aren't like breast implants! They are solid silicone not the liquid kind. As far as I know they last you're whole life and you don't have to worry about any kind of leakage since they are hard silicone. I've seen them they are like rubber or plastic not anything liquid. Unless someone has heard otherwise that they do need to be replaced that would be news to me? |
Cheek implants will last your entire life. |
thank you :) i'm glad i found this plastic surgery message board. how long do cheek implants last though since they are inside the body. i know outside the body silicone would last thousands of years but being that they are inside the body doesn't your body try and break down foreign substances inside you? i wonder if silicone cheek implants show any signs of aging inside. they must because breast implants would last thousands of years outside the body but inside the body they are only good for 10 years. that's why i'm thinking about doing a different method of cheek augmentation like injectables instead of silicone. to me it sounds like the don't know how hard silicone breaks down in the body after a long time. |
Well technically you are right; there's no sure way to know how any substance breaks down in your body exactly. This includes many medications today as well as cosmetic treatments such as Botox. I feel safe with silicone because it lasts thousands of years if left to naturally to deteriorate so I feel there's a safe margin there to say it will be okay in a human body for 50 to 75 years. |
I think it will last your lifetime because it is not liquid It is solid like rubber You can get it and forget about it. It doesn't need to be re-implanted like most liquid fillers like botox have to. |
Honestly despite what the plastic surgeons say they really don't know. Remember all of these things are quite new to us. There is no one walking the earth today that has had silicone cheek implants for 50, 60, 70+ years in their face. I imagine if a teenager got them now and that person lived to be 90 or 100, we really wouldn't know how they would break down in your body over such a long period of time. |
If it takes a million years for a plastic bottle to disintegrate in a landfill then I think it's safe to say that a silicone cheek implant will last 80 years in a human. |
i agree with the gaite that its not a liquid that after some days it will melt and then you re-implanted it just implanted once in a life and then forget about it |
Just make sure you have done adequate research on your surgeon ... And that unfortunately is no guarantee .. |
