i asked my doctor about getting cheek implants and he recommended i do injections like radiesse or artefill instead. this is my viewpoint tho; those shots are like 500 to 1200 each... why should i pay that much for something that will only last a year? after 10 years i will have already paid enough for implants! on top of that i hear bad stuff about clumping and unnatural looking results using injections. if i just want a super *minor* change in my cheeks, is it best to just go with old fashion implants or injections?

so ken doll, u r not totally right. if u have the money, juvederm injections can actually be better!! that's what i do (juvederm 30HV... which is high viscosity meaning thicker to last longer and fill in larger areas)

this is why: cheek implants go under the muscle and skin. it does give u the nice contour and bulk u r after for sure. i went in for the consult and saw this on other before and after photos. BUT 1) some people are not happy with the results. u r not awake when it is being done so if u r reallyyyy particular, it is kinda up to the surgeon to make the final decision and the only way to reverse this is another costly procedure. 2) when you inject fillers in your skin to add bulk and contour, it goes into multiple layer of skin and fat etc. Think about that!! it plumps up your skin so it is like it was when u were young.... full of fat. It gives you a contoured look that is more youthful and fills out any wrinkles. I have never gotten botox and have no reason to because my skin is so filled out on multiple levels.

in short, i would stick with injections if u can afford it. also with time, u can adjust the injections to help for what new problem areas arise.

i agree with chattycathy...... i get juvederm injections and my skin never looked this good even when i was younger. it is so soft looking and filled out with no wrinkles and no pores. there is no way a cheekbone implant could make u have flawless skin.

Cathy that's just not true! Injectables can only mimick your soft tissue i.e. fat, muscle, it cannot do the job of a hard tissue like your cheekbone! It sounds like she wants to increase the size of her cheek bone and just using injections for that isn't the best way. If she wants the whole area too look more full as if there was more fat there then yeah Juvederm would be the way to go. I mean think about it, if you touch areas injected with Juvederm they're squishy and move, does your cheek bone do that? No because its hard bone.

that's the whole reason i dont wanna use restalin or something for cheek implants because i would always have in the back of my mind "ok i need to pay 600 bucks every 6 months to have them maintained" it's like having a car payment or mortgage to pay. i would just want something to fix it that i can forget about. not something i would keep having to pump money into all the time.

Well there is this product that is an "injectable" implant called bio alcamid that I heard about. I don't know anyone who has done this and it looks almost too good to be true!! You can inject it anywhere and it is permanent because it clumps together and then you can actually remove it if need be like pulling a worm out. This seems like it could be the wave of the future BUT i would imagine doctors might hate this because then people don't have to keep coming back for more and they would lose business. MAYBE that's why we haven't heard more about this in the US. hmmmm. I wish it was here cause even if I would pay to go to mexico to get it done, I wouldn't trust them. Anyway, check this out. FYI, I have seen a friend who got cheek implants and they looked great but ten years later after a kid and divorce, her face aged and she lost fat there like everyone else. Her once beautiful cheekbones then looked too big and pointy. she needed more midface fat to carry it off and gaining weight would probably not have been the answer. think of nicolete sheridan from desperate housewives and how she was pretty when she was younger with striking bone structure but when she aged (mostly natural actually), the loss of fat let us see too clearly her prominent cheekbones and her face looked sunk in. So don't let anyone tell you ANYTHING is permanent. trust me.

Stay away from Bio-Alcamid. The last few years there have been many discrepancies with the major ingredients of the filler magically changing without notice to anyone. The foreign manufacturer hasn't been able to give a clear answer on the ratio of polyalkylamide (main ingredient) to water as they've gave several varying ratios over the last few years. There have also been confusion over who the true manufacturer is: first is was a Russian company, later Italian. They have stated the active ingredient (in writing mind you) is polyacrylamide and other times polyalkylamide. A company that can even be clear or honest about what's in their product can't be trusted. They do claim it is removable through puncture and pressing it out in a "worm" like string but I have yet to see this. Perhaps there is a good idea behind this concept but right now it's in the hands of a unscrupulous people. Ideally a reputable pharmaceutical company should scoop up this project, do the research on it's effectiveness and safety, and then bring it to the market.

O.k. but the implants now you can get combination mid-face and cheek so how would that happen? you wouldn't lose much fat under the cheekbones because the mid-face implants would be there to prop it out. That's also why everyeone says to go with the smallest size implants and instead of the big ones. I think if you get the right size done by the right doctor implants are still way better than having to get injections twice a year for the rest of your life. Not only is that super expensive but also takes up a lot of time when you think about it.
