Types of Cheek Implants What are all the different types of cheek implants that are available? I already understand the difference between malar and submalar. I am seeking info about the different brands and types available for both. Are there any brands that should be avoided? Which brand types won't look fake? Do all plastic surgeons offer every brand? |
All surgeons do not have access to all brands, while some do. Many feel comfortable using only certain brands, and others go with the cookie cutter approach and use the same for everyone. Not a good approach. Many surgeons are eityher not qualified or too aggrssive and install implants that are way too big. One type of implant is solid silicone. Unlike silicone breast implants, silicone cheek implants are solid and can't leak. Others include polyethylene, expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE), and acellular dermal matrix made from donated human skin tissue. One type of ePTFE implant is Gore-Tex and the brand for acellular dermal matrix is Alloderm. Looking fake depends on utilizing the implant that is best for you, especially considering size. The surgeon's technique is also highly critical. |
Porex and Gore are the two main brands. To see the types of cheek implants each makes do a Google image search. Medium and large sizes never look real so stick with smalls. Gore has 6 different sizes and they are malar and submalar combined. Porex has about 20 different shapes and style on the market. Most of them are strictly cheek implants. Implantec is a smaller outfit and they have a few styles from Dr. Binder and Dr. Terino. There are also custom implants but only needed for birth/trauma deformities. This is what I had to get to fix my facial trauma. |
How do the brands differ in price. Would one brand / type of cheek implant be more expensive then another? |
My guess would be they are all similarly priced  (kind of like how brands of breast implants are) |
Some are more expensive than others. |
I just had cheek implants on Dec7th 2010, and today is the 25th of Dec, im really unhappy and kinda depressed, my Dr put in malar/submalar extra large, in, i had a sunken face and bags under my eyes, i look swollen under my eye area beside my nose, will i ever look normal again, or is this what i am stuck with, im already considering taking them out, but i think it could make my appearance worst i am 40 yr old male, has anyone experienced this before Thanks Ryan |
