Hello...

I had my breast reduction surgery on December 28th. As my doctor told me, I took the strips off the incisions last night. I actually got lightheaded and nauseous doing this because when I was taking the strips off, I noticed long strings coming out of the incisions...this really freaked me out. My doctor said the stitches were dissolvable, so I wasn't expecting to see these. They are only around the nipple. Can anyone who's had this procedure tell me if you experienced the same? I see my doctor again in 2 weeks. Will he be snipping these strings? Also, my incisions are extremely itchy on the sides of my breasts..is this normal? Thanks!!

I would call your surgeon to let them know that there are strings that you can see, yes they will snip these out. It doesn't hurt. I haven't had a breast reduction however I did just have a TT and thats what my surgeon did was snip the stitches out. Matter of fact, its been 2 months and i had some rise to the surface and when i went in to see my surgeon he noticed it and snip it out. When it comes to the itch, make sure you are not getting a yeast infection. callyour surgeon about these concerns as they can direct you better. May I ask what surgeon you used??

They are totally normal. Dissolveable stiches will stick out like that if they have yet to dissolve. Do not pull, poke, touch or even look at them! lol

It is very odd that your surgeon even told you to remove the tape on your own. I had my surgery almost 3 weeks ago and he said to never touch the tape.

I've been going back to see my surgeon every week for a checkup and HE removes the tape and replaces it every visit to make sure it's clean and fresh cause he doesn't want it falling off after I shower.

I would call up your surgeon immediately and plan a visit because if your stitches didn't dissolve yet on their own, you might not be healed even to have your tape removed.

I spoke to my surgeon.. I used Dr. Greenberg (he's in Manhattan and Long Island). He said the stitches are totally normal and I'm itchy because I'm healing, just like anything else gets itchy. He will snip my stitches at my next follow up. Thanks for your help!!
