Considering a Breast Reduction
I'm considering a breast reduction. I am a 19 years old, I am 5'1, 130 pounds, and I wear a 34DD bra. As you can imagine, a 34DD is a hard bra to come by. Also, my right breast has been noticeably bigger than my left one for as long as I can remember. My right breast is now almost a DDD, while my left remains a DD.
That is the least of my problems though. I used to love to run, and I would tolerate my breasts to the best of my ability in order to enjoy my running. That has ceased. Any physical activity I want to try is put on hold because of my large breasts. I have also had physical pain---shoulder, neck, and back pain---since I was 15. Sleeping is also difficult to manage. I can't sleep on my back. I'm forced to sleep on my right side or my stomach to compensate for the excessive weight of my right breast.
I have also been experiencing costochondritis for a year now. Costochondritis is the inflammation of a rib or the cartilage around a rib that makes one experience severe chest pains as well as swelling. The cause for costochondritis is not well known. This, coincidently, is on my right side as well (this makes me wonder if my ribcage is under stress from the weight of my breasts?). In order to keep the costochondritis under control, I have to take anti-inflammatory medication daily. And when I sleep at night, I can't sleep on my preferred right side.
High school was difficult for me. Finding a prom dress that fit was near impossible. I have never found a swimming suit that fits me. And I usually have to go to a specialty store to find a bra (which is a ton more expensive than picking one up at wal-mart).
So I've been considering a breast reduction for almost 5 years. I have a few questions though.. Obviously there is going to be scaring, but I'd MUCH rather have scarring than the pain I have to go through daily. I could really care less about the appearance of my breasts. I'm more concerned about the affects of after the surgery. Is nerve damage likely or common? Is it possible for me to breast feed someday if I have a child? If I decide to have a child someday, will my breast size return to what it was before?
Where do I even begin this process?
Go For It!
I read your post and can not imagine all the pain and trouble you have described. It seems like your situation isn't even about the cosmetic side of it as much as the "health" side. Either way though its important that you find a certified surgeon that can help answer any questions you might have regarding breast feeding, your costochondritis, scarring etc. I can tell you that breast reduction surgery this day and age leaves a very minimal scar and there are even options to go abroad and get the work done as to save money and perhaps get that much needed vacation. I live in Mexico and can highly recommend calyton hill services. They are a great clinic that can answer your questions for free and they also have great packages if you decide on the surgery. You asked where to "start" ...I would contact them first and see if maybe they can help! Best Wishes!
Well it seems as if you've thought a lot about this. I also agree with the other poster that this problem is not cosmetic to you, but more health related.
I would think this over, definitely search for a good surgeon, and have a consult. Make sure they are properly certified through this website: The American Society of Plastic Surgeons. It's good for you to make an appointment and talk to a surgeon who will tell you step-by-step the surgery in detail as well as what to expect and the pros and cons.
And according to your height/weight you might be eligible to have your insurance (if you have any) covered by it. I recently had a reduction through my insurance. It was a lot of paperwork along with multiple pictures that had to be submitted and I also included a letter detailing why I felt I needed the surgery and put emphasis on my limitations due to my breasts.

I am not an expert in this matter but as far as I know yes there would be some nerve damaged but not dangerous. Complications may also occur such as Infection, Symmastia , Bottoming Out, Bottoming Out etc. but I believe it is still possible for you to breast feed in the future.
Considering a Breast Reduction and adopt supportive all factors so we want a best growth according to best health so never deny health importance.
I am sure due to your heavy breasts you must be facing quite a few health related problems. but as others said you must first consult a reputed and nice surgeon who could advise you on this because I have ready this procedure may lead to some complications like Fat Necrosis,Skin Necrosis,Permanent Numbness,Anesthesia Reaction,Breastfeeding Problems
and quite a few others.
But these complications are not common occurrence, as I have read, these can be avoided if done by really a nice surgeon.
Considered Breast Reduction for 11 years, had it, LOVE IT!!
To all who are considering a breast reduction. I was a 36D, 5' 2", 130 lbs. Ever since I was 19 I was thinking about a breast reduction. I am very short waisted and have most of my height in my legs. I couldn't stand men staring at my chest, no blouses would close without safety pins at the chest, and I felt I wasn't height-weight proportionate. I was 19 in 1978, and in 1991, I finally did it. I am now 53, the surgery was 21 years ago, and I have to tell you it was the best decision I ever made in my life. Before the surgery my blouses were a 12-14. After the surgery I was a 6-8. I never realized that my body image of me being fat was tied up in my blouse size. My pant size was smaller, and I realized that I was more petite than I thought but my breasts were in the way. I am an active outdoors woman, I love to hike and run. It is so much more comfortable. Mostly, when I look in the mirror, I am height-weight proportionate after surgery. I felt so much more confident about my body image. I know this is counter to our society where all these women are having breast implants. My only recommendation is to find a doctor who specializes in breasts. I am a believer that a plastic surgeon shouldn't be a generalist but a specialist in that area of the body. If you ask plastic surgeons who is happier with the results, a woman who has breast implants or a woman who has a breast reduction, they will tell you it is the women who had a breast reduction.
It was only painful the day of the surgery. Other than that I healed quickly with little black and blue.
