So I have consulted with two plastic surgeons regarding a breast reduction (female, 45). They have both described the operation as the removal of fat tissue from the actual breast AND removal of fat tissue from the side of the breasts.

However, one surgeon said that the removal of the "side fat" would not be covered by insurance and would be an out of pocket expense. The 2nd surgeon - upon hearing this - said that his surgery includes removal of fat from both areas and it is covered by insurance. He also said that anyone who told you otherwise is engaging in unethical behavior.

So the question is, what is the reality here?

If the "side" fat is in your breast region, the insurance should cover it, however, all insurance plans are different and there are man loopholes surgeons use to their advantage. Unethical? Probably. Can the surgeon get away with it? Most definitely.

I've read in other forums that a lot of insurance company does not cover cosmetic surgery. It really is grueling but if you want to have the best plastic surgery, I think that you should save up for it or you can look in other countries where it is cheaper.
