Kim,

You're very welcome, I'm just happy to suggest anything to help you out through this bump in the road. Two surgeries so close together is always hell. You're right about being sure to keep hydrated. I know it's rough because often you don't want to drink because that takes effort and then you need to get out of bed more frequently to use the bathroom - neither are very pleasant things to do after you've just undergone surgery. But just force yourself since staying hydrated will speed up the healing process and keep those "bad fluids" from surgery flowing out of your body faster.

If you've taken Tylenol PM believe it or not that is the same ingredient as Benadryl (both use what is known as diphenhydramine as the only active ingredient) so be sure to take either one or the other, just not both. You don't want to exceed 50 mg of diphenhydramine at a time. For sleep some doctors recommend up to 75 mg of diphenhydramine for adults but I would recommend speaking to your physician before trying that.

Another major trick to speeding up recovery which I'm sure your plastic surgeon already told you about, is to keep the top half of your body as upright as possible. Using pillows or a wedge when you're in bed so you are at an incline helps with clearing the fluid buildup in your breasts. Again not something that's fun to do, but it does make a significant difference. This will help with pain and discomfort too since much of that is from excess fluids inside that are pushing and pulling everything in there wrong.

I wish you all the best to feel well soon Kim!

i haven't gotten it done. i got the opposite- breast augmentation. but I know that the breast reduction recovery time can take up to 6 months but it's really the first 3 weeks that are by far the worst.

FYI: my doctor told me to keep my nose open for any odd odors from the breasts after surgery. he said that is the first sign of an infection so make sure if this happens to call your doctor asap. better to be safe than sorry.
