Hello,

I am planning to have my breast implants redone as I have had my silicon implants for almost 20 years now. I have a question regarding whether my new implants (I want silicon as well) should be 'over' the muscle or 'under' the muscle?

I have consulted with 2 different doctors so far and one has said 'over' and the other said 'under'. I should also mention that my original breasts were 'C / D' cups and my body fat composition is around 20%.

I was wondering if anyone had experience or thoughts on the matter?

Your BMI would be more helpful to make a generalized determination, vs. percentage of body fat, or even height weight stats, as well as body type. If you do not have a great deal of body fat don't go too big, and under the muscle will look more believable. If you have minimal body fat and get them over the muscle you might suffer from the "hardened 1/2 cantaloupe look". Not desirable in my opinion. I think under the muscle is the better choice overall. In most cases you can't detect nor even feel the implant.

What shape are you going for? How are you having them put in? Why silicone vs. saline? What is your original size and how big are you going this time? All of these variables can help to answer your question in an ameliorated fashion.

I think if you want a more natural look under the muscle breast implants are better. I know that's not going to be the case for everyone because we all have different situations.

Thanks for everyone's input so far... I agree that under the muscle generally has a more "natural" look to them, but I'm worried since I have had mine for 20 years and am wondering what the skin will look like after taking the old implants out that are currently over the muscle and then going with the new ones under the muscle. I am worried about them possibly looking like a half "deflated" balloon :-(

What shape are you going for? - well I want them to be natural looking and proportional to my 5'11" frame
How are you having them put in? - not sure yet, will find out at my final consultation
Why silicone vs. saline? - I read somewhere that silicone has a more natural feel and look to them
What is your original size and how big are you going this time? - original size was D, and will probably go with a full C

You are 5'11", but do you have a wide frame? Broad shoulders? What is your weight? These are all critical factors. You are nice and tall!!!

Insertion method is also an important bone of contention depending on what is being implanted,as well as what your body can carry in a natural looking fashion.

Silicone lasts longer, ris still more dangerous in the long run, and does not FEEL more realistic. If you get saline under the muscle, and get a reasonable size, your safety increases, and your look will be enhanced overall.

As a woman who is 5'11" why are you going smaller? What were your original size breasts (bandwidth and cup size)? Was a D your implant size? How many ccs for each breast?

Especially if you put them under the muscle, and have sufficient body fat, you will have a believable set of implants. What is your BMI? Body fat percentage us not as accurate to judge as is BMI. Here's a link to help: Calculate your BMI - Standard BMI Calculator

hi there, don't know if you've had the surgery yet BUT I have over the muscle implants. I am 60kg and they are great. As long as you don't have a bony chest you should be fine. I have had mine for 4 years now......my friends don't know and no one has noticed. I had them done after my third child. My friends just think I kept my baby boobs!!!! If I had to redo - would go over the muscle. Look very natural and feel very natural. I have the silicone gel implants - BEST THING I EVER DID...GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Good to hear you are happy with your procedure. How big did you go? Usually over the muscle implants have a tendency to look (and feel) unnatural. When you see pics of ladies with the "1/2 cantaloupe look", 9 times out of 10 they are over the muscle. Under the muscle implants tend to last longer as well.
