![]() | "Though saline breast implants are carefully pre-inspected, and made of strong and durable silicone polymers, they cannot last indefinitely. To the benefit of the breast implant recipient, all breast implants currently available in the US are backed by a lifetime manufacturers' replacement warranty, and in the first 5 years after placement, Mentor implants provide for a $1200 reimbursement toward the OR and anesthesia costs of implant replacement. Failure causes are numerous, but certain general facts are known. Thinner walled implants seem to be more long-lasting than thicker walled implants. Smooth breast implants tend to last longer than any textured wall implants (they are also thick-walled). Situations where there is excessive implant folding or wrinkling, as in placement in a constricted (too-small) pocket, lead to failure by causing stress fracturing of the silicone polymer shell at the fold points, and thus the potential benefit of vertically oversized pocket development and massage pocket maintenance. Implants which are filled below the least nominal volume for which they are rated tend to wrinkle and fail prematurely, as well." That's taken from Dr. Dewire's website here in Virginia which points out some interesting tidbits. My doctor never told me all implants sold in the US are guaranteed! |

![]() | um think about it...... which would u rather leak inside of you? saline from saline implants which is a natural body fluid or silicone which is from oil/petroleum!!!!! it can be an absolute mess to clean up if they leak whereas saline is safe. come on now..... i would never get silicone again. my mom had her silicone ones removed and is about to get saline ones put in. she had them taken out after my aunt's silicone ones leaked sooooo bad and it made her crazy sick. |

![]() | What you need to be concerned about is silicone breast implants. If you do have saline implants and don't replace them on the schedule if they go bad all that will happen is they deflate and the salt water goes into your body which is safely absorbed. Of course this doesn't look good and you'd need surgery asap to avoid people taking notice, but that's not that bad when you consider the alternative is it? I say stick with saline they last longer than ten year usually and there's no danger than going longer than ten years with them. When it comes to silicone there is a danger of going longer than ten years. |

![]() | Hey now I'm not saying silicone is the way to go but the new silicone breast implants that the FDA approved aren't like the antiques back in the 80's!!!! They use some kind of semi-solid silicone so it's not like that outright liquid oil that would just ooze out all over your body if it leaked (or least they don't think it will!) Silicone is NOT BAD I mean what do you think cheek implants and chin implants are made out of? A hard solid silicone! The new breast implants are more solid too. Yeah I think anyone will agree saline is safer but that's not to say the new silicone breast implants aren't safe either. |
