I had a breast augmentation some twenty years ago, silicone implants. Both implants ruptured with silicone outside of the capsule. I had them replaced with no lingering side effects from the leakage. How often does this happen?

I have two friends that have had their silicone implants for over 10 years now and they are still intact. I have one friend that had her silicone implants implanted 25 years ago and they are still intact. But it is hard to know when silicone implants rupture. It is even hard for surgeons to know just by looking/touching if an implant has ruptured.The Food and Drug Administration recommends monitoring silicone breast implants with routine MRI scans every two years, starting three years after the initial implant surgery. One of the main reasons I got saline implants was because I did not want to get MRIs every 2 years.
