I’m considering several BA surgeons in my area and one of them offers a computer simulation tool that shows results of the outcome in 3D. Anybody have experience with this? How does it work?

Well, simulation tools aren't very accurate. I would never count on simulations alone, they are more of something that is used to make you feel at ease about the surgery.

If you would like to see what they would feel like, I think Mentor (or one of the big brands) sells a sampling pack that you can try on under your bra?
