How often should breast implants be replaced on average? My implants were done 13 years ago. Has anyone here had to have their breast implants replaced? Are you supposed to? If so how often? I just read it was EVERY TEN YEARS?! I guess if they do have to be re-done I won't go with the silicone tear drop shape with a texture on the outside again. It's not that they don't look natural (my bf was shocked they were fake :D) but If I'm going to replace them I want ones with a bit more upper chest fullness. Well back to the question, so how often are breast implants supposed to be re-done? (attn moderator: there was another post about this subject but not my question of the average time, thanks) |
"they" say implants last only 10 years but i think it's much longer than that. after 10 years theyres supposed to start breaking down but theyre made of plactic and that lasts millions of years in the landfill?! it's probably just some sort of manufacturer warrenty disclaimer type of thing - they have to give you the worst case scenario. i know someone that has had the same implants for over 20 years no problemo. you know what they say, if it ain't broke.. |
i really want to have mine replaced i got silicone implants in '89 and yeah ur supposed to do it every 10 to 15. i'm afraid of getting my mammogram i havent gotten mine in over two years and i'm scared it will show that theyve ruptured or something. anyone know how much they cost to replace? |
i *think* but i'm not sure that they charge a lot more to replace breast implants than they do for for the first time u get breast augmentation. perhaps thats why some people say "don't fix it if it aint broke." if u have silicone ones though its a whole other story as there could be a serious safety issue there with the silicone leaking into your body and causing a whole mess of horrible problems which arent reverseable. |
If you have silicone breast implants absolutely you must get those replaced on schedule as there's a real danger there. However if you have saline implants the only danger of them going bad is a rupture or leak - they would immediately deflate or come close to it. The saline would go into your body but that's nothing more than water really so no real danger right there. If you have saline implants and not having any problems with them you should be okay if you wait longer than the recommended time. |

Your reply is wrong The pouch your silicone or saline is in is NOT plastic! It is made of silicone. The silicone bag can disolve over time and the contents leak out into your body! I had silicone and was told they would last forever. I had to have them taken out after 20 years as I was sick and they finally linked my illness to them. The doctor had to scrape the silicone in my chest for over four hours. The silicone bag had been leaking for years. My friend had saline and after 5 years she woke up with one flat. Be prepare to spend lots of money on replacements. I had mine removed and had plastic surgery using my own muscle to make my breasts and they are way better than they ever were with the fake ones. ;) |
