- Check Board-Certification: A doctor's board-certification is the best indicator of his or her training in a particular medical or surgical specialty. Look for certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), the only Board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) to certify doctors in the specialty of plastic surgery.

- Check ASAPS Membership: ASAPS membership ensures that a doctor not only is ABPS-certified (or, in Canada, certified in plastic surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.) but also has significant experience in cosmetic surgery. ASAPS membership is by invitation only.

- Check Facility Accreditation: Cosmetic surgery can safely be performed in a hospital, a surgicenter or an office-based surgical facility: Current published data show that accredited office-based facilities have a safety record comparable to that of hospital ambulatory surgery settings. However, the majority of office-based surgical facilities are not accredited. Another advantage of selecting an ASAPS member is that all ASAPS surgeons operate in accredited, state-licensed or Medicare-certified facilities.

- Check Hospital Privileges: Before granting operating privileges, hospital review committees evaluate a surgeon's training and competency for specific procedures. Wherever the surgery will be performed, be sure that the surgeon has operating privileges in an accredited hospital for the same procedure being considered.

- Check Reliable Sources: Asking a patient's primary care doctor for recommendations is a good place to start, and friends may offer suggestions; but the surgeon's board-certification should always be verified independently by contacting the American Board of Plastic Surgery . Free referral information to board-certified plastic surgeons with significant experience in cosmetic surgery can be found on http://www.surgery.org. ASAPS' web site also offers extensive information about cosmetic surgical procedures.

Great Post

This is all such great information. We still found it difficult though to find the exact page to go to within the states sites to verify a doctor's license. So we created a table that contains the page where the user can perform their search:
Physician License Verification

I hope this is helpful as well.

In Australia board certified surgeons can be the most dangerosu

In Victoria Australia, a plastic surgeon by the name of Dr. Morris Ritz from the Melbourne Institute of Plastic Surgeon, was sued in an out of court settlement that his ex-patient won. She was severely mutilated by this doctor and although the television show might be deemed 'tabloid' there is nothing like the legal team of a highly commercial and successful TV show to make sure the facts are RIGHT. There is no way this segment would have aired if Mrs. Mullins was not telling the truth. However, in the time it took to tell her story, Dr. Morris Ritz was promoting himself on national television as the Macrolane (lunch time boob jab) pioneer of Melbourne, and continues to promote himself all over the net as the breast surgeon you can 'trust'- all of this despite causing a perfectly healthy woman to lose an entire breast and so much more! Now, Dr. Ritz is also a 'proud' member (as his internet promotion states!) of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Australian Medical Association, and that does not say much for 'board' qualified surgeons. And in Australia, it is almost impossible to check the records of a surgeon based on malpractice law suits, because most of the time payouts involve a clause the patient has to sign to state that they will not discuss the case. So, for anyone who wants the FACTS about this surgeon, Dr. Morris Ritz, then you can find them. However, the brave Mrs. Mullins is no doubt one of many many women- who have not been permitted to speak the truth The Beauty Trap

The single most important factor in assuring a successful plastic surgery result is the surgeon you select. Plastic surgery requires medical knowledge and surgical skill and experience.

Surgeons with the most training include cardiothoracic surgeons (doctors specializing in the heart), neurosurgeons (doctors specializing in the brain) and plastic surgeons like my doctors Brett Stompro and Chester Cheng (doctors specializing in reconstructive and cosmetic surgery). When choosing a plastic surgeon it is very important to select one certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). Here is a link on How to check board certification of your doctor: Welcome to ABMS: Improving healthcare quality through board certification . This certification assures the patient/consumer that the doctor has met the board's extensive requirements in knowledge, training and experience. The American Board of Plastic Surgery is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialists. These certified plastic surgeons have graduated from an accredited medical school, completed at least five additional years of residency (typically three to five years of general surgery and two years of plastic surgery), practiced plastic surgery for at least two more years, and passed comprehensive exams (a written and oral exam).

There are many "fake" boards that issue certificates and diplomas. Some of these boards will certify a doctor after only a weekend course. What this means is that a dermatologist, gynecologist, internists or otolaryngologist can appear board certified in plastic surgery. They display certificates and diplomas from these unrecognized boards and many times deceive and fool the patient. For instance, many people do not know that the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery is not a recognized board. The American Board of Medical Specialists recognizes only the American Board of Plastic Surgery for reconstructive and cosmetic surgery.

The popularity of plastic surgery is growing and more and more doctors are trying to enter this specialty. Any licensed physician can call himself or herself a cosmetic surgeon, so the importance of finding a properly trained and certified plastic surgeon is paramount. Choosing a doctor who is a certified member of the American Board of Plastic Surgery is the first step in ensuring medical knowledge and surgical skill and experience.

In plastic surgery, where many of the procedures are performed in the surgeon's office, it is relatively easy for a physician to give the impression of being a "qualified plastic surgeon." For example, the doctor may be board certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties, but not certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. The laws requiring disclosure of specific credentials in advertisements or brochures vary among states. So, while a doctor may be listed in the yellow pages as a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon the information may not reveal which board granted the certification. It is important that you learn about the doctor's education, training, certification, and experience to make the best choice.

Board certification provides no guarantee that you will obtain good results from the cosmetic plastic surgery procedure but you can be sure that a board certified plastic surgeon has the right training and experience. As in any profession, some practitioners are better than others. Plastic surgery requires not only medical knowledge and surgical skill but artistic talent as well.

Plastic Surgeons like Brett Stompro, M.D. who are affiliated with ASAPS, a membership of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery a founded origination built in 1967, is the leading professional organization of plastic surgeons. You can check ASAPS Membership: by going online to: Find a Plastic Surgeon - Results .

When you choose doctors like Dr. Brett Stompro and Dr. Chester Cheng you can rest assured that they not only have the medical knowledge and surgical skill but also the artistic talent. Their approach to patient care and education sets them apart from other surgeons. Please do your research and go to a plastic surgeon that can provide information about the different procedures and can provide before-and-after photos for viewing and even word-of-mouth referrals from other patients. You want to go to the doctor that has the best credibility in the community, one in which a nurse or doctor would recommend (because they know everything in the medical field). I love my plastic surgeons and recommend them to all my friends and family – make sure you find someone that you trust to put into the hands of your loved ones like I have.

Hope this helps. C.S.

financing your surgery? lets help each other instead!

How I paid for my surgery! As seen on oprah!

Easy money
this is an investment opportunity for serious people only!!!
How to turn $6 into $6,000!!!!!! Reading this could
change your life! It changed mine...

You have most likely seen or heard about "the letter"; a $6.00 program that was recently televised on 20/20, oprah winfrey, martha stewart, and an article published in the wall street journal on 6/16/2001. I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it. A little while back, I was browsing through newsgroups, just like you are now, and came across an article similar to this that said you could make thousands of dollars within weeks with only an initial investment of $6.00! So I thought, yeah right, this must be a scam, but like most of us, I was curious, so I kept reading. Anyway, it said that you send $1.00 to each of the 6 names and address stated in the article. You then place your own name and address in the bottom of the list at ..6, and post the article in at least 200 newsgroups. (there are thousands) no catch, that was it.

So after thinking it over, and talking to a few people first, I thought about trying it. I figured: what have I got to lose except 6 stamps and $6.00, right? Then I invested the measly $6.00.

Well guess what!! Within 7 days, I started getting money in the mail! I was shocked! I figured it would end soon, but the money just kept coming in. In my first week, I made about $25.00. By the end of the second week I had made a total of over $1,000.00! In the third week I had over $10,000.00 and it's still growing.

This is now my fourth week and I have made a total of just over
$42,000.00 and it's still coming in rapidly. It's worth the $6.00 and the 6 stamps...If everyone just follows through and does exactly what this says you will earn the money you deserve. It's certainly worth $6.00, and 6 stamps. I was in a bad economic state before I found this article... I didn't believe this really worked until I actually started getting mail from all over the world... I bought everything I needed... This idea came in the right time exactly :-) let me tell you how this works and most importantly, why it works....Also, make sure you print a copy of this article now, so you can get the information off of it as you need it. I promise you that if you follow the directions exactly, you will start making more money than you though possible... And it is so easy.

Suggestion: read this entire message carefully! (print it out or
download it.) follow the simple directions and watch the money come in! It's easy. It's legal. And, your investment is only $6.00 (plus postage)

important: this is not a rip-off; it is not indecent; it is not
illegal; and it is virtually no risk - it really works!!!! If all of the following instructions are adhered to, you will
receive extraordinary dividends.

Please note: please follow these directions exactly, and $50,000 or more can be yours in 20 to 60 days. Sending six dollars will be nothing when you earn your $50,000 or more. This program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants. Please continue its success by carefully adhering to the instructions. You will now become part of the mail order business. In this business your product is not solid and tangible, it's a service. You are in the business of developing mailing lists. Many large corporations are happy to pay big bucks for quality lists. However, the money made from the mailing lists is secondary to the income which is made from people like you and me asking to be included in that list. Here are the 4 easy steps to success:

...................Step 1: get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the following on each piece of paper; please put me on your mailing list.

Now get 6 us $1.00 bills and place one inside each of the 6 pieces of paper so the bill will not be seen through the envelope (to prevent thievery). Next, place one paper in each of the 6 envelopes and seal them. You should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each with a piece of paper stating the above phrase, your name and address, and a $1.00 bill. What you are doing is creating a service. This is absolutely legal! You are requesting a legitimate service and you are paying for it! Like most of us I was a little skeptical and a little worried about the legal aspects of it all. So I checked it out with the u.S. Post office (1-800-725-2161) and they confirmed that it is indeed legal!
.......................................... ...................
Mail the 6 envelopes to the following addresses:

...1) sherry stewart jenks po box 1194 mukilteo, wa 98275

...2) chris lambert 95 willis street dartmouth, ma 02748

...3) rashid muhammed p.O. Box 806 haddock, ga 31033

...4) chris rassi 716 ne 12th st. Grants pass, or 97526

...5) a. Spina 1006 south orlando ave, los angeles, ca 90035

ā€¦. 6) Maria Carrero 4606 cedar springs rd. Apt 223 Dallas, TX 75219

.................Step 2: now take the...#1 name off the list that you see above, move the other names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, etc...) and add your name as # 6 on the list.

.................Step 3: change anything you need to, but try to keep this article as close to original as possible. Now, post your amended article to at least 200 newsgroups.
(i think there are close to 24,000 groups) all you need is 200, but remember, the more you post, the more money you make! This is perfectly legal! If you have any doubts, refer to title 18 sec. 1302 & 1341 of the postal lottery laws.

Keep a copy of these steps for yourself and, whenever you need money, you can use it again and again. Please remember that this program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants and by their carefully adhering to the directions. Look at it this way. If you are of integrity, the program will continue and the money that so many others have received will come your way. Note: you may want to retain every name and address sent to you, either on a computer or hard copy and keeps the notes people send you. This verifies that you are truly providing a service.

(also, it might be a good idea to wrap the $1 bill in dark paper to reduce the risk of mail theft). So, as each post is downloaded and the directions carefully followed, six members will be reimbursed for their participation as a list developer with one dollar each. Your name will move up the list geometrically so that when your name reaches the ...1 position you will be receiving thousands of dollars in cash!!!
What an opportunity for only $6.00 ($1.00 for each of the first
six people listed above) send it now, add your own name to
the list and you're in business!
