Question generic botox?

can someone please tell me how long drugs have to be name brand before they go generic. do any of you know when botox is suppose to have a generic version? i've heard from people once you start botox you usually don't stop because you need more treatments to keep the results. well that ship has sailed for me because i can only keep doing something if i can afford it! i want to start doing it but it needs to be at a cheaper price because right now most people can't afford 2000 a year to spend on it especially where i live in the boondocks out of atlanta. botox clinics in this town charge a lot here like we're in beverly hills it's crazy. so i think i'm going to hold off on the botox until the generic version comes out.

Angry

I haven't heard anything on Generic Botox yet. Wait patents last 17 years right? Don't medical patents last shorter? Either way their patent needs to hurry up and expire so we can stop getting charged $400 a shot!!!

When will generic Botox be available? At this point in time, the answer is never. It has nothing to do with a patent. The reason it's not available is Botox falls under the category of a "biologic" medication, which is governed by different rules and regulations. These are medications that are made using live cells or organisms, which produce certain proteins or molecules. The certain law prohibits generic biologics. If a pharmaceutical company wants a generic version, they must undergo the traditional FDA testing just like a brand name drug. Since this is so costly there's no incentive to spend years doing this and coming out with a generic version when the laws may be changed that control this, which would allow generic biologics - including generic botox.

Oh that's super! so we're gonna get price gouged forever now on Botox!!! Yhey need to change these laws so this can happen sooner rather than later. This should be the number one issue for everyone this November - only vote for candidates that support law changes for generic botox just kidding of course!

I was here for something else but saw this posting. I was JUST reading an article about generic Botox. Good news people there are a couple things going on for it. I have the mag right here so this is what they are.

Botox is the brand name for botulinum type A. This is FDA approved for things like overactive sweating (hyperhydrosis) and a few other non-cosmetic uses. Botulinum type B is Myobloc, but it's not FDA approved anything cosmetic so it can't be used in place of Botox. Right now Rexolin may receive FDA approval as it's in clinical trials for the treatment of brow furrows and facial frown-lines. Another brand in clinical trials is Purtox.

What I don't get is if you do a search for "generic Botox" you get results from all kinds of websites that claim to sell it. This has got to be a scam because no one manufactures generic Botox yet. Anyone else see this?

Generic botox? Well, they better create such a product so that anyone with a low budget can have it. Botox is really very expensive, middle families can not spend so much each year. They need a cheaper alternative.

If you visit REMOVED LINK they have a team of great surgeons in the Atlanta area that are able and willing to perform whatever you may need! Hope this helps.
I checked out the link emilyroth7 offered, and there are no examples of "successful" after pics for clients for Botox. That would make me decline to utilize this particular center, or ask them for further info. Botox as well as other fillers can be quite pricey to keep up. Perhaps you should consider places other than Atlanta. You might have to pay for travel, but the results could be astounding. Like I always say, never scrimp when it comes to your appearance, as you get what you pay for!
