A female friend of mine stated that she recently had surgery, and asked if I could take her to the hospital. Of course I said no problem, and when I asked what type of surgery, she stated that she'd rather not say. What type of female surgery might a woman be hesitant to reveal to a close friend? I know it's not a hysterectomy because she is planning to have more children.

I don't know what the name of the surgery but the procedure to reconstruct the downtown area might be it. I can't imagine what else she would be embarrassed of. I don't really understand why some people are embarrassed about these things it's better to be honest with your close one than not tell them. See if she just would have told you the truth you wouldn't be wondering what she was up to.

Sometimes women are very self conscious about their bodies and how they feel about them. I'm not sure if you're a male or a female DEV but if male, she may just be uncomfortable relating what she doesn't like about her body to you.

Many women do not even feel comfortable opening up to those of their own sex, nevermind opening up to a man. Some of the aforementioned surgeries are very personal as well. For example a vaginoplasty is not something you discuss over dinner, as you might a rhinoplasty (for reasons of appropriateness as well as it being obvious).

I have seen women with low self-esteem be extremely open about their plastic surgeries, as they are proud of their new look, or be very clandestine, because they still feel like they need more "work" done. We are ALL works in progress, on all levels ...

Now more than ever people are open to talking about their plastic surgery. Well they may not be talking about vaginoplasty at the dinner table, more people are comfortable talking about getting work done.

Remember when plastic surgery was always so hush hush? Now people talk about it like it's getting their nails done!

It depends on the person, la_angel. Although it has become more socially acceptable, some people think they can walk around with a new nose or some other majorly obvious modification and others won't notice.

You should be proud of your surgery, in my opinion ... unless it's a botched surgery, which is truly unfortunate. You wanted it, you got it, you healed ... show it off!!! If it looks good tell people about your surgeon, and flaunt it!
